Annex for a W

Annex for a W is a curated set of 30 artworks featuring Polygons of different sizes that are transformed by Perlin Noise. The bending that is applied to the Polygons and then accumulated in the picture leads to a multitude of different shapes, that sometimes look funny but often seem to express some form of pain or anger. 

The title for the series stems from the German "Ein X für ein U vormachen"  which in English means to lead someone up the garden path. Since there is no 1:1 translation available and I liked the expression I came up with my own version - An X for a U, or better Annex for a W.

Speranda

Speranda is latin and has two meanings, 1. to hope for or expect something, 2. to get ready.

Drawing instructions slightly vary box by box, producing from time to time an optical illusion. The range of formed shapes, that sometimes are pretty linear, sometimes more organic shall trigger the viewers imagination.

42 bits of Starlight

42 bits of Starlight is a series of 42 artworks celebrating light, color, space, randomness and chance. It's also meant to be a statement against today's self-obsession.

Technically it has a slight reference to Pixel art as I was using 7x7 and 5x5 pixel sized squares for drawing. Unlike in Pixel art I did not limit the color spectrum and made extensive use of color gradients. The varying patterns occur due to the interference of emerging lines, crossing each other at different angles.

Closure of the Ball Pit

Closure of the Ball Pit is a series of 100 lightly curated Artworks of which I selected 20 that I liked the most. It's an exercise in finding a balance between order and chaos, contrast and blur, light and shadow.

I have been experimenting with regular and irregular grids and different coloring techniques. For the circles hatching I used different approaches of even and uneven distances between lines and angles derived from Worley noise.

Unplugged

Painting with vectors is always fun, just a few points spread over the screen that follow a set of rules and form some lines and curves. The algorithm is using Voronoi Noise with some Perlin Noise applied and does some carefully crafted mapping of the noise scale. In some cases appr. 30% of the vector angles get rounded to either multiples of PI / 2 or PI / 4, which gives it a slightly edgy style. The spines come from a Convex Hull of a set of points that is used for drawing.
